What useful information does the word emergent add in “superconduction is an emergent phenomenon”?

I’m also not going to give more deference to a term because it is used in highly cited papers. That’s an argument from authority, and makes the assumption that anything in current research papers can’t be questioned. Much of the article is about how scientists also have foibles, and evidence of the use of “emergent” could be equally cited as evidence for this argument as for its opposite.
