Regarding the critical aspect of language, what you wrote is basically what I've also said in a few other places. The process of creating intersubjective spaces is how we define our external world. This moves it from being a purely metaphysical question to a semiotic or societal space. And motives matter here, since without a social motive the many of our materialist paradigms can't exist.
